Answers for your questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What are your courses all about?
That’s a great question.
We have been successfully teaching English photography courses in Jerusalem since 2011. We are all about quality, streamlined education, to help you get on your photography feet in no time.
From our countless students who have gone on to successfully open their own photo studios, we’ve seen that our tried and true methods are the best and quickest way to learn real, quality photography.
We only teach practical and actionable photo techniques, meaning you can leave behind the boring, monotonous technical details that so many courses harp on. Bayer interpolation? Zone system? Forget about it.
Make sure to check out our Success Stories to see the quality of work our students accomplish after finishing our courses.
If you are looking for a school that can teach you quickly, effectively, and in a fun awesome environment, this is the course for you.
Will I be able to open my own studio or photography business after taking all of your courses?
Many of our students go on to successfully open their own studios or photography businesses.
In fact, we have had many students who have opened their outdoor portrait studios even after finishing just the Foundational Photography Course.
We are also proud to report that many of our students are publishing weekly, in publications such as Whisk, Misphacha and more.
Please note however, that to open your indoor studio and to use studio lighting, the Advanced Course will be necessary in addition to the Foundational Course.
Additionally, please take a look at our success stories to see a selection of our students who have opened their own outdoor and indoor studios.
I’m not sure I want to join, can I first try it out?
The first class is always free, with zero obligation to continue.

Are Photoshop and Lightroom essential to learn to be a professional photographer?
Although there a handful of photographers who don’t regularly use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, these two programs have become essential prerequisites for most working photographers.
Expectations of clients as well as the quality of photography in the industry have increased dramatically in the last few years; to keep up with the market expectations, knowledge of both of these programs have become a necessity.
Additionally, Lightroom can be very effective in reducing the amount of time photographers spend editing their photos (which can be overwhelming).
In short, both programs are a natural part of every photographer’s education.
Iv’e already taken a Photoshop course, do I really need to do it again?
Some of our students have previously taken graphic design Photoshop classes before enrolling at the JPI. However, while most of these courses teach the “tools” of Photoshop, they often lack the photographic know how and techniques to actually use Photoshop to edit pictures.
Therefore, if you have not had any direct experience using Photoshop to retouch photographs, we highly recommend our Photoshop course to lean how to use Photoshop for photographers as part of our complete Post Production workflow.
What kind of camera is required for your courses?
While the minimum camera required is a digital camera that can shoot in “manual” mode, we recommend that students purchase a “DSLR” to get the most out of our courses.
With today’s technology, a DSLR does not have to be expensive, heavy or bulky to produce high-quality images. In fact, for as little as $250 you can purchase an amazing used camera that can provide amazing professional quality images.
However, most of our students purchase their first camera package for around $700-800.
Please refer to our Camera Buying Guide for more details about camera purchasing advice, and feel free to be in touch with any camera purchasing questions you may have.
Do I need to buy a camera for the course?
If you are not ready to invest in a camera yet, don’t fret!
The JPI has dslr rental cameras available for a nominal weekly fee.
What if I don’t have any photography experience?
That’s why we created the JPI! Although we have a wide range of students who join our courses, the Foundational Photography Course starts at the very beginning.
A common problem we have seen from our students who have had previous photographic education, is that while they often have learned bits and pieces online, there are often “major gaps” in their learning curriculum which hold them back from being a successful photographer. With the JPI’s curriculum, you never have to worry about missing out on crucial information.
How many people are there in a class?
To ensure everyone receives the personal attention that they need, we limit our classes to eight students.
When and how often do the classes meet?
Both the Foundational and Advanced Photography classes have ten 1 1/2 hour sessions and two 1 hour field trips.
The Adobe Photoshop / Lightroom course meets for 12 1 1/2 hour session.
All courses take place near the Kiryat Belz / Shamgar neighborhood.
Are your courses only for women?
At the present, based on demand, we are currently only offering courses for women.
